Traffic flowing again after St Mary landslide
Traffic has begun flowing again along the Junction main road near Broadgate in St Mary after a tense morning of detours and delays caused by a landslide that blocked the roadway.
The road was cleared shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, by a work team from the National Works Agency, with assistance from private contractors and several motorists who pitched in to help remove debris.
Overnight rainfall triggered a landslide that brought down a large tree early Tuesday morning, cutting off the major thoroughfare and forcing motorists travelling between Annotto Bay and Kingston to divert through Richmond, Rock River and Scott's Hall, exiting at Grande Hole.
Member of Parliament for Southeast St Mary, Christopher Brown, told the Jamaica Star that the Broadgate roadway is now passable. However, he cautioned motorists to proceed carefully as clean-up operations are still ongoing.
Brown said the relevant authorities responded quickly to restore access, noting that further clearing is being done to ensure the road is safe for all users.
