Jamaica tops 600 murders even with big drop in crime
Murders in Jamaica have climbed past the six hundred mark, even as the latest crime data shows a forty two per cent drop when compared to last year.
According to figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, as at November 22 the country recorded 604. This is 437 fewer than the 1041 killed during the same period last year.
The St Andrew South police division remains the deadliest with seventy homicides to date. It is followed by St Catherine North with 57, St Ann with 54, St James with 49 and St Catherine South with 48, rounding out the top five murder divisions.
Of the 19 police divisions islandwide, 17 are recording fewer murders than last year.
Shootings, injured persons and rape are also down.
However robberies and break-ins continue to rise, showing increases of nine and twenty per cent respectively.
Thirteen murders were recorded during the week of November fifteen to twenty two.
