'I won't change my style' - Dyema Attitude defends 'garbage bin dance'
Dancer Dyema Attitude has come under heavy criticism from social media users for a video she posted to her Instagram page on the weekend.
The video shows the dancer performing at an event in the US where she attempts to get creative with her routine by incorporating the use of a garbage bin.
Dyema Attitude can be seen removing the garbage bag from the bin before laying the bin on the ground and rolling in it.
Some social media users lashed out at her, labelling her a disgrace among other things. Clearly trying to figure out why the trash can was needed in the first place, some users stated that dancehall culture has watered down and expressed that Dyema had no clue what she was doing.
NEGATIVE COMMENTS
"Them drinks must have been strong or you were trying to figure out what stunt to do with the bin and you said 'f**k it, let me just roll in this s**t'," one user said. "Why can't women just dance? What is this rolling around in a bin?" another user expressed.
Having caught wind of the negative comments, Dyema, who had resorted to responding to her critics in the comments section, sought to address the naysayers via an Instagram live video.
In the video, Dyema stated that usually she would drown out the negative comments, but said she felt the need to respond because some users were taking their insults a bit too far.
"Me well want di whole a unu run come innu because me wah diss up some a unu people innu weh a comment pan people things and a talk bout garbage pan dis, dat or wah. Me woulda like fi know if a fi unu talent or a fimi talent," Dyema said in the video. "One dutty woman a come comment pan me thing a talk bout garbage bin, Dyema come on ... none a unu can't make me change me style, a so me stay, a so di people dem know me."
15 YEARS
When THE STAR spoke to the dancer, she said that she has been doing that particular 'roll in the bin' move now for 15 years and will not change her style to please anyone.
"That's my style. This social media thing come een like it get to everybody brain because I been doing this for years, that's my entertainment and there was no problem until social media," she said, pointing out that dance has opened many doors for her. "Dem deh people deh (naysayers on social media) a dirt, me nuh have no time for dem. If a never dancing, people wouldn't a book me. Right now a overseas me deh and da garbage bin video deh was from a performance in Mississippi, so if a never dancing, me wouldn't reach so far."
