Corinaldi Avenue Primary school reigned supreme in the Insports St James Primary schools netball and football competitions on Friday, beating Chetwood and Howard Cooke in the respective finals to bag back-to-back doubles.

Corinaldi defeated Chetwood 23-5 to take the netball crown, while the football team defeated Howard Cooke 1-0 on Omario Morgan's goal to lift that title.

Although delighted to have retained their title, Corinaldi's netball coach Omroy Kerr, expected a harder match from their opponents.

"The final was not really what we expected. It was easier than we thought it would have been. Chetwood have a really good team. I don't know what happened on the day. Not sure if it was stage fright. My girls stuck to the game plan and executed," he said.

He noted that Hurricane Melissa was a trying experience for the school, but that the competitions gave some amount of relief to the students.

"Happy we are the winners. Hurricane Melissa really did us bad but we tried our best to pull it off.

"We had a few training sessions some days we weren't at school to ensure the teams were ready, both netball and football. We are just glad and we give God the victory," he added.

Principal Deon Stern-Anglin, like Kerr was grateful for the competition after Hurricane Melissa brought spirits very low.

"We are grateful. We are happy at a time like this after Hurricane Melissa, that we could unearth and expose talent.

"We are grateful to Insports and we are happy. One more year we have conquered. We have overcome everybody in the competition and indeed we are happy and we are looking forward to continue creating positive role models, positive students and nation builders," she commented.

"It seemed nothing would have happened because we had a category 5 hurricane and some parishes didn't have any competition.

"So we are grateful to (Insports Officer Leacroft) Mr Lettman. He came forward along with Insports to have this talent exposure for football and netball.

"We will continue to uphold our high standard and continue to be the home of champions. Thanks to our sports coordinator, coaches and staff who supported us," she added.
